Recap 02/2025

The last three months at the design studio  have been more about building than launching, but I didn't want to lose the momentum we started with the previous update. Some projects can take a few weeks or a couple of months to come together; others are more complex and require time to conceptualize, strategize, design, and develop before they can be shared with the world.

Let's get into it.

5 Years!

When I say it, 5 years sounds like a long time, but it's gone by in a flash. As I mentioned in my last email, April marked the 5th anniversary of me going out on my own as a designer / creative. It has been a constant evolution, and I have enjoyed all the new challenges and personal ownership it has provided.

I did take some time to look back and reflect on what I've accomplished so far.

Looking ahead, there are several areas I need to improve, such as refining my day-to-day processes, effectively addressing self-promotion, and finding ways to communicate the value and services I provide. Then there is defining what I want to focus on in the future. I love all the design work I have been doing recently, but would like to carve out some time for more personal, handmade projects instead of sitting in front of a screen all day. Plus, continue to build relationships with individuals and companies, and identify opportunities to utilize design to help them achieve their objectives.

I am thankful for all the fantastic people I have worked with and collaborated with along the way; it's a long list of people that I am genuinely grateful for.

Dynabook 2024-25 Ad Campaign

We wrapped up the 2024-25 Dynabook Canada ad campaign this spring. This campaign included a variety of creative concepts addressing the needs of Canadian businesses; we created ads for multiple channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. These ads drove shoppers to the Dynabook e-commerce site that we launched last year.

For this campaign, we doubled down on video concepts, working closely with the team at Stature Films, we were able to create engaging ads that showcase the finer features of each laptop that Dynabook sells. Always great to work with the team at Stature!

Linmac Sub-Brand Extension

Collaborating with the great team at CollectiveIQ, we finished up an ad for Linmac LLP featuring one of their new sub-brands, Veterinary Law, for a conference in October.

This ad continued the rollout of the sub-brand work we did for Linmac last year, as they sought to grow into new markets — specifically, Veterinary Law and Funeral & Cremation Law. These niche areas are where they already have experience, but need a clearer way to talk about it. We started with a simple extension of their logo and brand system, and it's grown into brochures, landing pages, event materials, and this print ad. All are designed to position Linmac as a trusted legal partner in each sector.

A Quote to Share:
I've been slowly reading the book "The Creative Act: A Way of Being" by Rick Rubin, and this quote stood out to me:

"You cannot control how much work it takes to finish a project. It could be a hundred hours or it could be five minutes. The amount of time it takes is irrelevant."

The idea of working hard is a core belief of mine, and putting in the extra effort to ensure a project is its best is sometimes needed. I'm not selling hours; I sell outcomes.

If you have been following me on Instagram or LinkedIn (thank you!), you'll have noticed that I started posting (a bit) more. Mostly deeper dives into projects I've featured in this newsletter, showing some of the finer details and deeper insights into my process. What I share and how often might evolve, so if there is anything you'd like to see more of, please shoot me a note.

I'll be sharing more about these projects in the following weeks.

Looking Ahead

As I'm a bit late in sending this email update, Q3 is almost half over already, and I should start planning the next one. We will be launching a few websites and a new collaboration this quarter, which I am excited to share.

Whether you're building something new or evolving what's already there, I help bring clarity through brand, web, and design. Always up for a conversation if you've got something coming up.

Until next time,
